Time For An Update!
It’s been a while since I added a Journal or ‘blog’ post. Partly as I am not one for really adding content for the sake of adding content, but equally, because I have not had much to add in recent months. Until now…
It’s mid May 2023 and an update is due.
First up, we moved. We moved from Gers, South West France to the departement of Orne in Normandy, Northern France.
This was kind of planned, but also somewhat hurried…
We had been toying with the idea of moving a bit further North since the Covid era with family travelling less from the UK plus the fact it was a full day of driving in each direction to get to a Channel port. Because who like flying these days?
We also really wanted to downsize from 4/5 bed farmhouse and 2.5 acres. Because grass cutting. And maintenance. I mean, 3 hours of the former and the potential looming cost for the windows and the roof and…just nah. Post-Covid, I have a different mentality. A better one, so I can at least thank Covid for that.
The one thing I can’t thank Covid for however is wiping out our entire motorhome fund. Gone. Nada. Nuffing.
Downsizing was the answer so that 4/5 bed farmhouse plus 2.5 acres got traded for a 2 bed cottage and a motorhome. And cooler all year round which is actually a negative, though Mrs Firehorse disagrees.
And since then (decision to sell up August to sale agreed beginning of Oct to move mid Dec, all very quick for France), we found ourselves 500 or so km further North for the start of 2023.
And then although very little work to be done cosmetically, there’s always stuff with a house and it took a while to get everything sorted.
Then end of financial year. Boring. I don’t know how accountant types do that day in day out but hey, someone has to.
I had planned to get the re-brand and website update (the main purpose of this post) done well before the start of the 2023 wedding season but best laid plans of mic and men…and graphic designers, meant not.
So after 3 weddings in, I finally had the time to do the job and as the locals say, “et voila”; new brand identity, rolled out on IG and now my website and everywhere else.
And for anyone that is interested, why? The ‘old’ (most recent branding) was well liked and distinctive, but an absolute bitch to print in any fine detail, so we took the route of something that could in principal be stamped or embossed. Pretty happy with it and the subtle shift from normal gold to rose gold.
So that’s about the sum of it for the moment. Settled now in Normandy and it feels like home. Last years’ financials done. Re-brand and updates done. Motorhome already past 6.5k km and been home plus office for 3 weddings to date. Some new kit has arrived (again, should have been start of the season but it was not available) and a full booked diary for 2023. Can’t complain.
PS: If you can name the actor in the pic above, bonus points. He’s not ‘uber-famous’ but has been in a lot of stuff such as Jurassic World, ‘72, UK TV series, The Fall and teenage girl fave, Vampire Academy. He usually dies quite early on in most stuff he’s in but hey, home early.
