BOOKING A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
What would I do/advise if looking to book a wedding photographer today?
Suggest myself naturally?
Actually not. Well at least not immediately…
I would suggest ALL couples follow these steps.
1: Make a list of what is important to you and what you would like to get out of both the experience and perhaps more importantly, as a set of results.
2: Photo only or photo AND video?
3: Look at the results from your recently married friends and family members weddings and ask yourselves, do we like the result? If the answer is not so much, then skip Step 4.
4: If the answer is yes, ask the couple about their experience and whether they would recommend their photographer to you.
5: No referrals that you could work with? Then take a look at other people’s referrals whether they be a planner or a venue, BUT, always with a pinch of salt. Just because someone is on a list, does not make them right for you, so do your own research and ask yourself 3 questions re. anyone…
A: Look at FULL weddings, not just ‘best of galleries’ from multiple weddings. Those 30 ‘best of pics’ could have come 1 each from 30 different weddings. Or worse, one single wedding workshop. And from those full galleries from single weddings, ask yourself if you love what you are seeing? If you do, proceed to B:
B: Find out, or at least gauge how and whether that person would fit into your wedding. It’s a very underrated factor…
C: If it’s all good, follow your heart rather than a spreadsheet of comparisons. When you know, you know.
My own service is based on extensive experience (20+ years) and a certain style & flair which means the result from each wedding is ‘of a style’, but as unique and individual as each client. I prefer to think of it as working with you rather than a box checked off a list of suppliers.
I am available for weddings throughout the UK and the EU, though 90% of the weddings I am booked for these days are in France where I live.
